Tanner Anderson Davis finally made his big arrival Tuesday, August 19th. He weighed 7 pounds 12 ounces, was 18 inches long, and has the fullest head of black hair you've ever seen!! He's the most beautiful baby boy and Scotty and I feel so blessed to have been given this gift!! We are truly the luckiest parents in the entire world.
I know I've probably made some enemies for taking so long to post this blog, but I promise I've been working on this for several days!! I'm like, Do I blog or sleep? Most of the time sleep won the vote!! But better late than never, huh?

So here's the story. Before I got pregnant with Tanner I would always get pretty severe migraines. After I got pregnant I never had one (major blessing!!) So on Monday (the 18th) I went to lunch with some girlfriends and my head started hurting, but I just thought it wasn't a big deal - maybe my sinuses were just acting up. The longer we sat there the worse I started to feel. After lunch me and my friend Angie stopped by Hobby Lobby and then she took me home. She needed to come inside to feed her baby and I'm so glad she did. We had not been here 10 minutes before I was on the couch, curled up in a ball, and all I could do was hold my head. It quickly got worse and worse till Angie finally called Scotty and told him to come home. We called my doctor and he said I needed to be admitted to the hospital to have an I.V. for pain medicine.
We got there and had the I.V. started and I went to sleep. After a while I woke up with the head ache coming back worse. They had to give me a shot of stronger pain medicine and do a urine sample by catheter. They wanted to keep me overnight, but I begged to go home. So we did. My headache finally went away in the wee hours of Tuesday morning. I couldn't go back to sleep so I got up at 4 am and just knew that Tanner was coming that day!! I started getting last minute stuff ready for the hospital and when Scotty got up for work and found me busy as a bee he asked what I was doing and I was like, "I just think today's the day!" (And it was!!)
Later on that morning (the 19th) we called the doctor and asked if he could check me out because I started having some bleeding. He said for us to come on and he'd pencil us in. When he checked me, I was 2 cm dilated and 90% effaced. Dr. White said we had 3 options. 1. Sit and wait because he felt like I'd go into labor on my own within 24-48 hours. 2. Induce the baby the next day. 3. Induce the baby later on that afternoon. We said we'd go home and talk things over and call back with our decision.
We went home and decided to go with option #2. All afternoon we kept saying over and over to each other, "Wow we're gonna have a kid tomorrow!" I tried to rest and Scotty started "nesting" to tie up loose ends. I went in the bedroom and started to read and noticed I was having crampy pains. They didn't feel like what people had described as contractions, but I timed them anyway. They were 5 minutes apart, but people had said "Oh, you'll know if you're in labor!" Well, I didn't know so I took a nap!! Yes, I was in labor and took a NAP for almost 2 hours!!! Who does that? Anyway.... I woke up and went to the bathroom and Scotty came to check the bleeding. The next thing I know there was a huge gush. I looked at Scotty and said something's not right and he said you're water just broke!! To say that I freaked out is an understatement. So he loaded up the car real quick and we drove to the hospital. On the way he called Dr. White on his cell phone and told him we were on our way!!
When we got to the hospital I had dilated 4 cm. The nurse checked me and said she wasn't sure the water was broken completely. Tanner's head had been down in position for weeks. And I had told Scotty the other day I thought I would be ok as long as things went slow and people were nice to me and kept telling me everything would be ok. I'm a wuss and need to be petted. So the on-call OB checked and said to the nurse, "That's not a sack you feel, that's his butt!!" After all those weeks Tanner had flipped and was now breech!! Dr. Hudson said we'd hafta do a C-section and needed to move as fast as possible. Talk about the total opposite of slow!! In a matter of minutes I had 1 nurse putting in a cath, another nurse shaving my stomach, another nurse doing the I.V. , another nurse getting history and consent, and the anasthesiologist up by my face explaining everything that would go on in the O.R. I was terrified!! I asked if Scotty could go with me for the epidural and they said he could come in right after. I turned and looked at Dr. White and through tears asked if he would go in with me. He said he'd be there the entire time and was scrubbed in before I was in the O.R.
I was wheeled into the O.R. on a hospital bed and began getting the spinal block. That was the worst part of the entire labor. If that 20 minutes is all I have to complain about I'd say I was pretty blessed!! When that was over Scotty came in and sat by my face. He was so sweet and encouraging and I'll always remember being in that moment with him and literally having our entire world change right before our eyes. I'm so happy we were in this together because I couldn't have done it without him.
Here's Scotty holding my hand before the chaos started letting me know everything will be ok.
